Winter fuel payments
Firstly. Confused: I click on All boards on the right. Scroll down to energy. But the only categories are Heat pumps and LPG but other normal gas and electricity energy is not here. Is this a different energy section?
I Qualify for £200 Winter fuel payments and have received a letter confirming this. I downloaded my latest energy bill from Sainsburys energy and I find a credit of
£150.00 for Warm Home Discount Core Group 2. This is not £200.
Is this different from the winter fuel payments?
Thanks. And any help on getting to the correct forum on this would help.Comments

Heat Pumps and LPG are sub-categories of the main Energy board. The more mainstream gas and electricity threads are just posted on the Energy board itself, here.PaulDesmond said:Firstly. and yes, the Warm Home Discount is different to the Winter Fuel Payment.
( And note that if you have an income of over £35k the latter will be clawed back by HMRC later)0 -
You are conflating two different things.PaulDesmond said:Firstly. Confused: I click on All boards on the right. Scroll down to energy. But the only categories are Heat pumps and LPG but other normal gas and electricity energy is not here. Is this a different energy section?

£200 is a genuine Winter Fuel Payment award someone can receive (and might have to pay back).
No idea what the other payment can or should be.0 -
The Warm home discount is a separate government scheme for those eligible (low income etc) which is managed and paid via the individual's energy supplierDazed_and_C0nfused said:PaulDesmond said:Firstly. Okay but as the energy company are giving me this, the question is still...
Is this a one off or something new. Energy providers are not known for there generosity. It seems like a government / regulator enforcement andI have never had this before and as a pensioner, my circumstances have not changed over the years except, the freeze on the 20% tax band affecting pensioners and the up-coming hike on taxation on savings.

Problem solved. Just received a second letter from HMRC notifying me of a further £150 Warm home discount. So I am £350 better off this christmas.

Presumably you are getting Pension Credit. When did you start getting that ?PaulDesmond said:I have never had this before and as a pensioner, my circumstances have not changed over the years
The scheme has been running since 2011 for people on low incomes and certain means-tested benefits, although I imagine it may have been suspended when there were wider cost-of-living payments made a few years ago.
your energy needs to be supplied by one of the companies who particulate in the scheme - not all do.

Are you sure it's not a scam, I don't believe HMRC have any involvement with warm home discounts/paymentsPaulDesmond said:Problem solved. Just received a second letter from HMRC notifying me of a further £150 Warm home discount. So I am £350 better off this christmas.0 -
Was it income-based or contributions-based ESA?PaulDesmond said:I do not have and never have had pension creidit just the standard pensioners state pension. If you think that I could claim for previouse years then please tell me how.

Previous years required people to meet a vulnerability criteria as well, whereas from this year it's for all who claim means-tested benefits. It also includes Housing Benefit which in previous years it didn't.
If you only claim state pension I'm not sure how you've qualified this year. Housing Benefit, maybe?0
