constant discolouration of toilet bowl

One of ur toilet bowl turn brown every 2-3 days.
Toilet in question is upstairs and no one uses it.It flushes normally.
None of the toilets in the house have any issues.
Toilets were installed 7 years ago.
We got 2 plumbers to have a look, but they found no problems and asked us to ignore it.
But it is a nuisance and only way to keep it clean is by pouring bleach into it.
We are intrigued by this.
any thoughts?

Is the water discoloured too? If so it may be a belly in the drain line that is causing foul water to collect and leak back up the drain into the bowl.

Do you know if there are any other drains (showers, sinks, other toilets) upstream of the toilet drain?

Is the toilet properly descaled? We have one loo that goes a bit brown if I don't keep on top of the descaling.

I pour some citric acid down, and leave it to sit overnight before giving it a really good scrub.

Alternatively distilled white vinegar works - but DO NOT mix these with bleach or a bleach containing product under ANY circumstances.

    ....
Did you try to wash it properly, e.g. with washing powder and a hard sponge/brush?
If there is some deposit on the surface, bleach doesn't clean anything, just discolours it.

this is last toilet next to drain pipe.
and yes water is discoloured too.
but if no one has used toilet for more than 6 months, and we cleaning and flushing it at least once a week, how can the water keep becoming brown?
  • The only thing I can think of that turns the water itself brown is rust. Is a fitting in the toilet cistern rusting maybe?

Do you have hard water or iron in your water supply? I believe you can look online, on your water company's website.

Mine gets brown but not as quickly as yours. I just bleach daily and it goes away

Not a very environmentally friendly option though.

Have you cleaned up the top of the bowl where the water flushes in?
A toothbrush scrubbing the holes you can't see.
Took me several goes to get it really clean as grime had dried into the channels and as it came away would reside in the holes.

Ditto a scrub right round the exit bend. Pan scourer good for this.

Make sure the cistern is clean.

I moved into a house that hadn't been occupied for years and it took quite a while to deal with the same problem.
But once done it stayed that way.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

The ceramic glaze should not stain, so this is likely to be a problem with limescale. Remove that and the stain should not rapidly reappear. If it’s not limescale then the glaze could have failed in some way in which cast a replacement bowl is the only solution.
