E: 15/11 Win a leaf sweeper from Robert Dyas & tidy up your outside space

https://www.thesun.co.uk/competitions/37172514/win-a-leaf-sweeper-competition/

IT’S Autumn and the leaves are falling.

Although it’s ok to leave them in your borders, where they’ll rot down and add nutrients to the soil – its best to try and keep them off the lawn.

We’ve got TWO Ewbank Multisweep 20L Manual Push Sweeper – worth £79.99 from Robert Dyas to give away.

You can use the leaves to make leaf mould – which is a great mulch.

Put your swept up leaves in a damp plastic bag or bin liner – pierce it with a few holes and tie the top loosely – and then just leave it hidden away for up to two years.

It will naturally breakdown slowly using fungus to create Leafmould – which is perfect for seed sowing compost, soil conditioner or mulch.

The RHS says that the best quality comes from oak, hornbeam or beech – as these will break down the quickest – but as long as they’re not evergreen, or needles, most trees that lost their leaves in Autumn will work.

It might help to shred the bigger thicker leaves like horse chestnut (conker) and sycamore first.

Just make sure – if you’re taking them from the street –  that they’re not contaminated with rubbish – so quieter residential streets are better.

I’d also recommended that you leave some leaves – if you can bear it – in your garden beds. They will break down slowly releasing nutrients back into the soil and can form a natural mulch – which suppresses weeds and keeps the soil moist.

To enter the competition, fill in the form below.

Or write to Sun Leaf Sweeper competition, PO Box 3190, Colchester, Essex, CO2 8GP.

Include your name, age, email or phone. UK residents 18+ only. Entries close 11.59pm. November 15, 2025. T&Cs apply
