I recently bought a Nextbase Dashcam from Halfords which I wrongly thought had developed a fault warranting its return for a refund.
It forced me to look at Halfords Return Policy. I was surprised to find that if a fault developed after 30 days, they state that my first contact is with the manufacturer and not with the supplier.
Surely this is a contravention of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 which Martin Lewis has stated on his tv program?
How are they able to publish such a blatant illegal statement?

They get a lot of 'possible' faults that turn out to be customer error.0

In most cases they say (many others do as well) as all retailer would do is send it back to be checked. So doing it yourself is quicker.
After 30 days you are not entitled to a refund straight away, retailer gets to choose action repair, replace or refund.Life in the slow lane0

I don't know CRA 2015 but could it "unenforceable" rather than "illegal" ?Londonskydiver said:I recently bought a Nextbase Dashcam from Halfords which I wrongly thought had developed a fault warranting its return for a refund.

What is the exact wording you saw on Halfords Return Policy?
Might be worth you writing to them and put an update on hear with their excuse explanationI have a tendency to mute most posts so if your expecting me to respond you might be waiting along time!0

The CRA says that the consumer has the right to require a repair or replacement from the trader.singhini said:

Sensibly, the CRA does not say the trader has to carry out the repair with their own hands. In almost all cases that would result in a poor quality, amateurish job.
It says the trader is responsible for the repair or replacement which must be carried out in a reasonable time. Hence Halfords are saying that going directly to the manufacturer will be quicker and better.
If the repair or replacement is
 (a) not done within a reasonable time
 (b) would cause significant inconvenience to the consumer
 (c) not successful
then the consumer can request a refund.1

How are they able to publish such a blatant illegal statement? As far as I'm aware, there is nothing illegal about the statement.Any consumer has the option of either availing themselves of the manufacturer's warranty or resorting to their rights under the CRA - either is a valid course of action. There is nothing illegal about Halfords recommending that the consumer makes use of the warranty, which requires that they contact the manufacturer directly. There is of course nothing to oblige them to do what Halfords recommend.
