Home Contents Claim - Has anyone been made to do this?

Evening, our ongoing flood claim is now 22 months old and we are just about to move into a rental property. In the flood every single piece of furniture , crockery, glassware etc. downstairs was lost and written off. We have completed a partial contents claim for which we have been paid.

We asked the insurance company to help us with some contents for the rental and have been told that for any item that we cannot immediately replace, i.e. antiques or special order items then we have to use the payout received for all the these items irrespective of whether they were in the paid claim or not.

We think it is likely to be another 10 months or so before we could move back home. We do not a complete Statement of Work yet!

Has anyone else had this experience or we being treated in a special, but not a good, way?

To be honest, not following what's happened... sounds like you have claimed for the lost contents and have been paid in full for that but you are now trying to claim for different stuff to use in your rental property? Are these not things you'll need when you return home? Were they item not lost and therefore are in storage and could be gotten out of storage?

How were these not in the  payout. If they were damaged/ lost in the flood?

Or are you  unable to replace an item at present, but need a similar item in the meantime?

Perhaps if you have gave details of what you want the insurance to help you to buy and why it was not included in the payout,  instead of us playing guessing games, you would get more advice.

I think it depends on the Ts & Cs of your policy. A friend of mine had to had to move into rental because, in her case, a car had crashed into her home and building work was needed. Her own (undamaged) sofa was too large for the rental so her insurance told her to go and buy something suitable (within a price range IIRC).
