Amazon returns - but without the returns label?

Trying to see what the situation is here because I've never experienced it before.

My mother bought something on Amazon & put in to return it. I don't know what her options were when putting in for the refund but she's selected to print the label off at home, probably because she knows I have a printer. I can't remember the last time dropping off somewhere, be it Post Office or Hermes WASN'T an option but she's adamant it wasn't. Personally I'm not so sure but it's not important...

She's already been given her refund.

Now she emailed over the returns stuff to be printed, except I only got the packing slip to put inside. No actual label. It says that will be issued within 4 days of the return being started. Well, the return was started Monday 20th I think. Possibly earlier I don't know.

So thinking she's just missed it I offer to have a look in her account. Sure enough there's no actual returns label at all that I can see.

"All the items must be sent by 24 Nov, 2025.

Return Mailing Label

  • The seller will provide a Return Mailing Label within 4 days of your return request date.

Return Authorisation Label

Cut this and place inside the return package"

I see that.

And on her main order page it says

"

Refunded

We are expecting your return. Your refund has been issued."

Her bank account also shows that the money has gone in.

I know some times Amazon give you a refund & tell you to keep the item. I've had it before, ranging from a couple quid item to one that was about £50. This item in question is £70.

How can she send it back if she has no label & no address to send back to?

Or is she to just keep it now?

Oh and I had a look at the shipper / seller - it is NOT Amazon.

Looks like you should be contacted by the seller for the returns label - but in this case it seems the seller has already refunded and doesn't want the item back. Strange considering the value.......

At this point I would put the item aside for a few months and see if the seller responds with the return label. If not, then do as you wish with the item.

I would actively contact the seller and ask for the returns label, otherwsie you can't send it back.  It's easier and more honest to do it this way, rather than waiting.  They may have forgotten to send it, or it may have perhaps gone into your mum's junk folder (but it would probably exist on Amazon as a message anyway).
