Self employed / UC claim review.

hi everyone.

after claiming UC as a self employed person for almost 6 years now, I recently went up for a review which I had to submit bank statements and do a phone interview.

after said phone call the lady had mentioned that I couldn't claim mileage from the digs in London to workplace and back only from my home address to London and back(per week).

I also found out I've been putting down my income completely wrong the whole time. I attended the job centre 5 years ago and I got shown on my monthly income and expenditure by a member of staff how to complete the form.

Since then I have been entering my income after tax each month and then adding the tax as an expense which I should not of been doing as it has already been deducted.

I worked in London for a whole year in 2024 and came home roughly 10 times. I feel like I should of moved out and had my partner claim in full but did not.

I'm now being investigated as they have asked for 6 years of bank statements and worried i'm going to get a huge overpayment and my partners benefits stopped.

any help or reassurance would be great.

thanks

JR

If you did not have a couple claim and were living together, then yes there could be a large overpayment due. But also depending on the amount involved could lead to prosecution.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
