Have you checked the tyre pressure, that may be why you are getting a harsher ride

I most certainly can feel a difference in road handling and comfort with the 94Y XL tyres.
Compared to new 91Y of the same make/model, on the same wheels? Or compared to the old tyres that were coming off?
The stand in manager was the person who fitted the tyres - is he not duty bound to check the order/product before fitting?
They were the brand, size, and speed rating you ordered. They more than meet the load rating requirement for your car.
The only reason to contact Goodyear is for them to be aware of the poor service provided by HiQ
Not quite - provided by the franchised fitting centre your contract is with.

Just to add, if you are planning to refuse to accept the tyres that are fitted and instigate a chargeback/refund - then you probably shouldn’t be driving the car on them

If you ordered a blue kitchen and they delivered a pink one, would you just roll over and accept it?

More akin to "If you ordered a blue kitchen with regular door hinges, but they delivered a blue kitchen with more expensive and durable (but identically sized) heavy duty hinges but which were 5% stiffer to operate, would you just roll over and accept it?"

I used to have a VW Phaeton that needed 19" low profile extra load tyres on account of it weighing about 2.5 tonnes, they were significantly harder to source and more expensive.

Whenever I am now ordering tyres now for my more regular weight cars, if I see an uprated load version for the same price I think, "Cool, a more durable tyre for the same money" and buy them. I have never noticed any difference in the ride quality. If I had an MX-5 or race car running low pressures, perhaps I would?

I think the reason the garage are having problems is that they probably "upgrade" peoples tyres like this a lot and very few would either notice or care, and even fewer would feel the need to retrospectively complain about it.
    • The rich buy assets.
    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

For a chargeback, tyres would need to be sent back to company that supplied them. The removal & return would be at OP cost.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you're probably the first customer he's dealt with who has complained about getting higher load ratings than paid for. As long as the minimum spec is met then I assume virtually no other customers care or could notice the ride quality difference with such a minor change.

I'm assuming all else being equal; I'd be upset if I ordered good 91Y and got cheap 94Y but I wouldn't care if it was the same brand.

Did you leave the car with them so they can change to the 91's you want without the 94's being used? I think they should be offering to replace them for you on the assumption that they can resell the 94's.

Not what I’m saying at all.

More akin to - if you are instigating a chargeback based on goods not as described, then isn’t reasonable to use said goods in the meantime

Some people want all four tyres to match. That would be my preference too, but I would not pay ££ more to achieve that.
I have recently bought some "viners executive suite cutlery2 from ebay, they were probably made in the 80s, I didn't want to buy a new set, so I bought some replacements of the same type.
I don't consider myself a weirdo; surely we all want things to match.
