    Thanks for all the comments.
The first attempt on emissions was a fail for HC also. But the mechanic (who we trust) did it again and ran for ages to try and bring levels down. HC passed but not the CO/Lambda. There was smoke comming out the exhaust at thihs point. I appreciate the suggestions about the oxygen sensor etc. Maybe that could be fixed?

However, there's other stuff going on such as: Apparent cracks on "rockers" whatever that is? We head that last year as well.
And it is going through a lot of oil. Initially I put that down to the age/miles.

Also a cracked rear bumper where Mr Romanian lorry driver didnt think I was going fast enough through lane closures on M1 and kept flashing me me and eventually rammed my rear (fortunately no injuries) but a wet night on the shoulder.

Then theres the scrapes/dents on the sides.

We've ran this hard the last few years and it just doesnt make sense to put anymore money in. Also we have a house move coming up and dont feel its 100% reliable to be driving between Northamptonshire and the borders any more.
We can afford a decent second hand car so think this is what we have to do now. So if we could get couple of hundred (more?) for it that would be great. Ebay suggestion possible?
We had thought about advertsing it  low/offers being completely honest about everything and seeing what comes back

Further to my previous and disposal/selling strategy.

Replaced windscreen 7 days ago due to crack. So we'd pass MOT! Ha ha that worked didnt it!!
New complete exhaust 4 weeks ago.
New front tyres 2 months ago. Others reaced 12 months back.

So you can see why we dont feel like dumping any more £££ into it!

Unless someone has had the top of the engine off to check the valve train, I would think they are talking about the "rocker cover".

The TU rocker cover is prone to a little rust and the seal can leak.
I have seen one or two warp in the past as well.
Maybe it's warped and someone has tried to tighten it down and cracked it.

It could be why it's going through engine oil if it's leaking a little and it's possible it's causing the fuelling issue.

As for the CO level being high, that could be due to a few things but generally it's a rich running engine.
So not enough air or too much fuel OR it's fooled into thinking one of these, this is usually due to an air leak or exhaust leak.

The Cat may look suspect but the Cat turns CO to CO2 but it needs heat and oxygen to do that, something lacking in the exhaust of a rich running engine.

If the rocker cover is leaking, that might be a source of unmetered air getting into combustion.
The top of the engine (usually the rocker cover) is plumbed into the air intake so vapours from the crankcase get sucked into combustion and burnt.

If it's sucking in fresh air, that might not be metered (depending on what system is uses to measure the air MAF or MAP) and that could be fooling the fuelling.

Unmetered air entering the engine would normally result in a lean combustion which will cause the ECU to try and trim that out but it can only go so far before it tries to protect the engine (lean = hot which is bad) and it reverts to a safe preset fuelling strategy.
This means it ignores the O2 sensor and uses an overly rich setting just like it's cold starting strategy. (so a preset open loop instead of a self trimming closed loop)

Our situation: 2016 Peugeot 206 with 125,000 miles on it.

The Peugeot 206 was produced up to 2006 (in the UK); if its a 2016, then do you mean its a 1st gen 208? The 208 never came with the TU engine, its all VTi and Puretech etc from then on.

Sounds like you’ve really given the car a good run, but with the emissions issues, oil use, cracked rockers, body damage, and now the reliability worries, it honestly sounds like the right time to move on. You’re not throwing good money after bad by calling it a day. If you just want it gone with no hassle, you could try getting a quote from a scrap service like nationwidesalvage.co.uk. Or, as you said, you can list it cheaply on eBay with full honesty and see if someone wants it as a project or for parts. Either way, you’ll probably get a bit of money back and save yourself the stress before your house move. Sounds like the sensible call.
