Odd international returns request
se2020
I (private seller in UK) sold an item on ebay to the USA.
I posted directly via royal mail so paid both the postage and the import/tariff duty.
Item was ordered on the 22nd and posted the same day.
Today (24th) the buyer has opened a returns request with the reason 'ordered by mistake' which seems a little hasty as I doubt the item has even left the UK yet!
I have the options of, Accept Return (buyer pays postage), Decline Return, Offer Full/Partial Refund.
If I accept the return I suppose my funds get put on hold until the item is delivered to the buyer then finally back to me?
My concerns are,
Will the returns label clearly show this is a return or will I be billed for import duty when it gets back to the UK?
Will I be able to issue a partial refund on return to cover the postage and duty I paid for sending the item?

The hasty "ordered by mistake" may have something to do with the increased amounts of money people in the US have to pay for any imports currently.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. If you send an item with royal mail then you (the seller) have to pay all the import fees upfront so it gets delivered DDPBrie said:The hasty "ordered by mistake" may have something to do with the increased amounts of money people in the US have to pay for any imports currently.
Maybe the buyer doesn't know that though?
