Moring all, it's sunny for the moment after yesterdys wind and rain...although it wasn't as bad as it was made out to be..Trip to a diy place this moring to get some guttering gubbins, then meeting frinds for lunch then out this evening for a friends daugthers birthday which I completely forgot about and feel very guilty, especially since it's her birthday...So, better gird my loins and get going! By the way, if anyone has a recipe for rice pudding that results in the kind of one that's still runny ish with a crust at the end of it, please can I have it...I've tried Delias, and a few others, they're all pants. They're either completely stodgy and solid, or there's not enough sweetness, or far too runny...Coxy, why scuff the soles? for grip or is it a superstition? Sorry, to the stupid early risers, fingers crossed for a good nights sleep tonight! Gers, well done on your retraint too
Take care all....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi11 -
Good morning all, thanks @Scarlet for today's start. Commiserations to you and others who've had an involuntary early start to the day, especially when it's a chilly one and there's no incentive to drag yourself out of a warm bed! Last night we were treated to a glorious sunset of clouds tinged with a golden orange and then pink glow. Today it's another mixture of sunshine and cloud, likely to be dry with a light to moderate breeze and, if we're lucky, top temps of around 9 deg.
Yesterday I had a fridge tidy up and froze a couple of things - some bacon that hasn't gone past its use by date yet but isn't likely to be eaten by then and some chillies. I swapped out the planned tuna & mushroom tea for spaghetti carbonara to use some of the bacon and made sure I washed my hands thoroughly after dealing with the chillies. Despite tons of decluttering over the last year, I'm still finding odds and ends that can go, so have started off another CS bag with a small wooden chopping board (surplus to requirements), some oddments of yarn and a pair of hardly worn loafer style shoes. I gave up high heels a long time ago but these are much too flat for my liking so, nice as they are, I'll release them for someone else to enjoy. I washed my hair too followed by a blow dry that, although nowhere near as good as how the hairdresser does it, wasn't a complete disaster.
Usual Friday admin today, a sweep/mop of the kitchen and hallway floors and not much else. Lemon & herb dusted fish fillet for tea, grated apple & yogurt for afters.
@Gers - Glad your trip to Glasgow was a success. Shame about the flower delivery let down but good customer service.
@TA - Had to laugh at the "shipping order" of meds. It used to feel like that when I collected DH's stuff, so much of it. Hope you remember what else it is you need.
@AA - I hope you do well at the craft fair this weekend.
@Coxy - Glad you managed to find new shoes, they sound very glam!
Have a good day all, as always hugs where needed. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.11 -
Morning, On nanny duties, 30 minutes to go until DD finishes work then it’s home time for me.. The sun is shining but the wind is a bit chilly.
Think once I’m home I’m going to lazy around on the sofa. XxTrying to change my life and will:money:8 -
Morning all
Dry and bright here and the wm is on with another load, will hang it out once it’s done.
I have had another uncomfortable night with my foot add to that the sneezing / coughing and I feel worn out, another day of not doing too much beckons.
Dinner tonight will be curry and rice and I’m hoping OH will make his green bean curry which is delicious. I have also found some oxtail 😃 our local butcher has some frozen so one of us will go and collect it today or tomorrow morning.
I bought a handheld steam cleaner during the week and it’s brilliant 😃 I have cleaned the oven door which was terrible so today I might put the racks into soak overnight and clean the rest of it but will see how I feel, we have a double oven but only really use one half so we can cook in the other half if we need to. I also cleaned the back door yesterday which was mucky with the dogs coming in and out, I think it’s my new favourite thing.
Snoozer sending hugs to you xx
Coxy enjoy your night out xx
Have good days all and take care xx

YorksLass, you saying you'd washed your hands after chopping chillies reminded me of something Ds1 told me about a lad he'd shared a house with when he was at university - this lad had chopped chillies, hadn't washed his hands, then gone to the toilet to pass water( putting it politely!) I leave the rest to your imagination!10

Hi everyone,
Scarlet, worse than that is taking contact lenses out after chopping chillies, even after washing as diligently as possible, there always seems to be a residue.
taff, I have had success in the past with a Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall recipe but I'm afraid I no longer have the book. I've looked online and I think it was this one https://rivercottage.net/recipes/rice-milk-sugar/
Thank you for the good wishes, Gers and Ruby.
We spent yesterday with Nate, when we saw him on Sunday he said he wanted to go to the zoo but it was definitely not zoo weather so we went to the Sea Life Centre in Hunstanton. It wasn't a howling success, and he said he wanted to go to a place with vehicles. We ended up calling at a tractor dealership on the way back which satisfied him. It turned out to have some ride-on toys and models as well but he was very good when I told him he'd have to wait till Christmas.
His imagination is off the scale, everyone has to become a character and he mimes putting on and taking off the appropriate clothes and uniform. Steve put some stuff in the car to take to the tip near us and then he had to take it out again because Nate wanted to pretend he'd taken it to the tip and was putting it in the various skips. We were also farmers, police officers and the fire brigade. By the time we got home we were exhausted.
We have a quiz tonight, we haven't been doing so well of late, only fourth in the last one we went to, we're used to being first or second. We don't usually win this one, there is a team which always beats us there.
Better go, I need to water the houseplants before we go away and it takes quite a time. I'll see if I can post a pic of my new reading corner, I love the plants there.
Have a good day.

Ouch! I bet he didn't make that mistake again!ScarletRibbons said:YorksLass, you saying you'd washed your hands after chopping chillies reminded me of something Ds1 told me about a lad he'd shared a house with when he was at university - this lad had chopped chillies, hadn't washed his hands, then gone to the toilet to pass water( putting it politely!) @snoozer - Double ouch! Lovely reading corner, it looks very relaxing.
The furthest outside I've been today is to the bin, lovely sunshine but a very cold wind.Be kind to others and to yourself too.8 -
@Chrisca50 - I use the hot tea with honey method to ease the throat. Honey is a natural antibiotic. Seems to work for me.3
