    You should be able to add ram (depends on the specific laptop), for XP I'd say 512 MiB should be minimum for it to run smoothly. If you want it to be wireless do you already have a wireless router?
    You could still get a laptop without wireless and buy a separate wireless USB dongle or wireless PCMCIA card.

    This might sound a bit thick, but, is there any easy way of me knowing if the laptop is able to take a ram upgrade/addition?

    I'm just looking to get a secondhand one off ebay from someone local - there seem to be a couple of cheapos that might do the job...:think:
