Scottish Gas

  • My Dad always paid his bill even if it was an estimate the last payment made by him was 2 September 2023. Unfortunately I am missing a couple of bills covering those payments. It is headed as a final bill. I also have another bill which seems to covet the same period. It is very confusing.
If you want people to help, you really need to provide the information asked for.

Please share the meter readings, dates, actual or estimate of the bills you do have, and any actual meter readings you do have if not on those bills.

Having a second bill covering the same period is not unusual if, for example, the first was based on estimated readings, and then it is re-issued using actual readings.
To be honest I have tried to provide information as best I can. The bills issued have always contained estimated figures which are higher than the final actual meter readings which I detailed in a previous post. Of course I want people to help but I would be here all day trying to layout bills and estimates etc. May be I should just mention back billing to them.
  • I have now received a final bill from Scottish Gas for gas and electricity used up to 18 October 2024. This is now showing actual meter readings but includes balance brought forward from estimated fuel usage since 20 August 2023. There has been one actual meter reading taken into account but most bills were estimates. I now have a deadlock letter from Scottish Gas because we could not agree to the final balance. Can someone please explain back billing to me?

Sharing a redacted bill would really help people help you, especially if you're going to go to the Energy Ombudsman. They will not investigate on your behalf, so you getting any refund is 100% reliant on the evidence you provide them, versus what SG say. And suppliers have been known to tell non-truths to the Ombudsman because they know the Ombudsman will take that as fact unless you provide evidence to the contrary.
  • I have roughly 9 bills which make up the final balance. Its too much to post on here sorry

Ok, please let us know what SG say about back-billing. But, since you/they have already taken it to deadlock, I have a feeling SG might just ignore you and the Ombudsman will be your next call.

If you do decide to go down that route, feel free to post your submission here in advance if you want feedback.
  • I have now contacted the Ombudsman and waiting to hear back from them. The deadlock letter received from BG is not accurate and I have queried issues with it but have not heard anything back from them.

Have completed the case with the Ombudsman. They have said the final  bill is correct  but have raised various shortfalls and lack of customer service by SG, They have recommended an apology letter from SG and a credit of £200 towards the final bill. The Ombudsman found that more that half of the amount was due to standing charges, The person at the Ombudsman was very helpful and supportive with my case.

Thank you for coming back with your outcome, even if it's not exactly what you were hoping for.
