Money saving in Glasgow

We're planning a few days in Glasgow early next month. I've got some plans on places to go as I want to see the art galleries specifically. Any other 'must do' ideas?

Also, places to eat that are good value for money. We particularly enjoy Italian but are quite flexible so Indian, Chinese, British cuisine or fish and chips considered. 😋

Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Riverside Museum, Burrell Collection, City Chambers Tour, GOMA, MacKintosh House, at Glasgow University, Provands Lordship, Glasgow Cathedral, House for an Art Lover, Britannia Panopticon - none are must does obviously, just see the things that interest you.

Using the Subway might be useful for getting around - https://www.spt.co.uk/tickets/day-tickets/

Lots of restaurant options but knowing where you are staying might help narrow some down.

Any chance you could be more specific about "good value for money"? What's your usual pph w/out booze?

Whereabouts are you staying? May know places that are near.

I ask because Glasgow has two Michelin starred restaurants, neither are remotely cheap but offer good value to those more used to "down South" prices.

Best 'new' Italian  - Celentano's, next to the Cathedral, the St. Mungo Museum Of Religious Life & Art, the Necropolis, Provand's Lordship.

Good old school Italians  - La Lanterna / Sarti's

Glasgow has a significant proportion of Chinese (particularly) and other East Asian nationals as students. Doesn't mean that the restaurants are great but there's a lot of them clustered around Partick Cross junction. Pick one that looks crowded.

In that area too, No. 16 Restaurant - Scots/French - ish.

There are dozens (probably hundreds) of rather ordinary generic "Indian" restaurants - Swadish is a step above both in quality and price, another good option is Mother India, has a posh and a less posh version (Cafe) both near Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum.

The Necropolis is well worth a visit
It's free and right next to the cathedral.

Thank you for the ideas so far, including the transport. 👍

We are used to 'down south' prices and would like some special meals but others we'd be happy with simpler pasta or pub grub. Also, any recommendations for cafes at lunchtime.

We're staying at the Holiday Inn Express, Riverside.

For meals - Rab Ha's, Mharsanta, The Italian Kitchen and the aforementioned Swadish are all not too far from your hotel.

Live music in the Clutha almost opposite your hotel

Cafes- Singl-end Merchant City, Wilson Street Pantry

Near Kelvingrove - Kember & Jones, Tinderbox and a multitude of places on Byres Road and the Finnieston area.

I rarely eat in Glasgow these days but in terms of cafés, my friends are great fans of the Ottoman Coffeehouse.

If you have any vegetarians in your party (or even if you don't!), Suissi Vegan Kitchen is supposed to be exceptional.

I'd personally recommend BLANE VALLEY on Glassford St in the city centre.  Just good home cooked pub grub, The steakpie (about £7) is superb.
