Dispute with Scottish Power
We moved into a property at the start of this year which has 2 gas supply’s (part of the house was used as an annex previously)
We hired someone to connect the gas supply’s so we’re only using one source. The unused supply is owned by Scottish Power who explained we would need to continue paying a standing charge even though we are not using any gas or pay for the supply to be removed from the property. We decided to bite the bullet and pay for it to be removed as it would save us money in the long term to avoid the ongoing standing charges.

Twice now they have not turned up on the day we had booked in for it to be removed. Twice I have taken a day off work to be home for this service to be completed. Each time when I have contacted them they have declared it is a third party that they employ to do this work and have shifted the blame stating that the 3rd party have not picked up the job or cancelled on the day.
I have raised a formal complaint and requested that I should not be billed for the standing charges from the original date the gas supply was supposed to be removed (28th August), they have not yet agreed to this. I am also awaiting an offer of compensation for the missed appointments.
I am reluctant to continue to pursue attempting to arrange for the supply to be removed when it is costing me time and money.
any advice on how I can navigate this?

Have you raised a complaint with them? If not, do so, and after 8 weeks you can take your case to the Energy Ombudsman.
I too would not expect to have to pay the SC from the date the first appointment was missed, though you'll likely have to pay it and then claim it back.1
