You were being greedy, plain and simple.
I wouldnt say that the op was being like that, i Just think they knew it sounded too good to be true but maybe thought they were being clever offering "half now and half when delivered".0 -

How is it being cleve if they knew it was a scam? Are they being clever because they only got scammed out of £28 instead of £50? I think it would have been smarter to keep the £28 in his pocket!0 -

I totally agree with you on that, but the OP thought that by offering half before and half when it arrived offered more "protection", it clearly didnt.
I assume that the OP thought they were maybe better than the "seller" when only offering half.
Nothing at all that can or will be done in my opinion!0 -

Well, this is a clear case of fraud. If the police decide to take action then there is a trail that can be followed.
All that the OP can do is visit a local police station at a time when they are not too busy, and try to persuade them to take an interest. The second email -- the fact that the seller was willing to try the same trick again with another victim -- should demonstrate to the police that this is a villain who should be stopped.0 -
do you really think the police will take it on for £28?
I dont think they will to be honnest. It will be logged as a complaint, but nothing will be done unless there are many MANY more reported.0 -

£28 x all the other people that responded, so it might be worthwhile if others came forward.
Perhaps post on gumtree asking people to email you if they got ripped off too, and say you're going to the police. at least if the person "selling" is reading, it might scare him off from doing it again.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Thanks all for the posts - I'll try the police tomorrow. Consider this post closed...0
