Morning all. Thanks for starting us off ScarletNot much going on here just keeping the menagerie fed and watered! This cold is still lingering with lots of coughing and blowing my nose constantly. 3 weeks in and it's getting on my nerves now.Looks like it's going to be a dry day today and no rain until tonight which is good.Have a good day all x12

Morning folks and thanks SCARLET. What a beautiful sight through my kitchen window when I got up. The black sky was absolutely awash with stars, I was mesmerised.
I think we are promised a mostly dry day hereabouts with spells of drizzle. Yesterday was much the same except for one torrential downpour just after lunch, with the rain coming down like stair rods. Fortunately DF and I were closeted in the pub enjoying our lunch at the time. It was much less busy than of late so maybe the forecast had put people off turning out.
Today is bus trip day (aka Skipton!) so the usual browse of the market stalls (if they are hardy enough to set up!) and a few shops before heading off for our lunch and much chatting.
Have a good day folks if you can with ((HUGS)) for our poorlies and poorly loved ones. I hope the Covid sufferers are on the mend. DP1 your DGD is such a brave little soul and it's no wonder she has a down day now and again. Take care all, be safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. Morning again, it's dry here as well, after a wet day yesterday.
For those asking about our winter planting, it's nothing exotic or unusual. We should have done it sooner really.
In our backyard, which is sheltered and faces south, South west, we have tubs, pots, and a tiered stand thing which was a great success in the summer with summer bedding. I've left the fuchsias in the bottom trough, will cut them back in the spring to flower again. They are still flowering in a small way.
Pulled most of the other stuff out of the containers, busy Lizzie still flowering, pulled it out though.
We've planted winter flowering pansies and viola for colour now, also crocus, hyacinth, dwarf tulips and primroses for the spring. We have plants that come back every year, narcissus, bush fuchsia, and a nice azalea tree. Also pots of herbs.
Our little front garden faces north east, so it gets the icy blasts of winter in a big way. Spring bulbs don't do well. We have hydrangea and cotoneaster, hardy stuff like that.
That's it really, nothing exotic.
If you're still awake after that boring description, I'll wish everyone a good day and thoughts to the poorlies. Thoughts also to Dp1's little granddaughter.
Take care folks.12 -
Morning all - thanks for the start @Scarlet. All those wintering flowering plants will certainly be cheery.@TA - I too was stopped by the stars this morning, it was so unexpected to see the sky twinkling away at 6.00a.m., especially as the night wasn't especially cold. I stayed in bed to watch them fade and the the sky became a bright pink joy. Perhaps that means rain, don't care.I've been meaning to say for ages that our late Nelski is in my mind almost every day because of the advice she gave me. By my bed is the overnight- friendly water bottle, I drink out of coffee cups which she tried to get for me when M&S ran out online and when I use butter it's the spreadable one she was recommended to use when first falling in Strange ways in which we all meld.Today I'll be doing one outside trip and then mostly staying indoors. I hope that everyone has a good day and managing to keep warm and well. Hugs all round.10

Morning all from Mehefinland
@Gers - that is so spooky as I too was thinking of Nelski and her fixation with Soreen and JM of course. Dumpling came to mind too. It is strange how these lovely people's memories just pop into your head. So many more who are either no longer with us, or have ceased posting.
Sun is peeking out again- so hope fully my line of washing may get dry today! The weather forecast isn't promising but I've taken a chance for now.
Horses came in absolutely plastered in mud yesterday - they had had a high old time . The problem was that it was WET mud!! I've left them for later to clean off - they will only find another mud patch anyway lol.
Trying to find out the population of my village from the last census for a report I am putting together . Local council doesn't have it ( although they can tell me who many are registered to vote!) and have directed me to the ONS. Will give them a try , although I suspect I know what the answer will be.
Hugs and spoons as always

Morning! It's actually sun shine at the moment, woop! Been out collecting the fallen leaves from the street and now have five bags but I can't put them in the boot until I drop the linens off at the charity shop so that's job no ! for the day...followed by more leaf collecting and then hopefully dropping off at the allotment. Very little else planned. We did go shopping for Ohs upcoming trip to Thailand in November so that means he does actually have things to wear there now, not just pants...which is lucky for them really. I will be home alone for three weeks and have made no plans for what I'll do so far except maybe hopefully colect some wood chip from someone we know.Scarlet, sounds like a full on flower fest will be occuring, I'm impressed and envious, I'm not half as organised! Gers, when I think of her I think of her laugh and her shouting at OH did he want a coffee
And liver and bacon obviously..Well, it seems a quiet one so far so hope everyone is busy or looking after themselves [or they're working...Izzy, looking at you...]...hugs to the lurgied up, no fun at all...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi10 -
Every time I post the 'pinch punch' it's because of Dumpling! Easter chicks, Christmas elfs are always lurking in my memory.mehefin said:Morning all from Mehefinland

It's part of a longer article about pointless tasks which made me smile. Of course, you're going to re-locate and distribute the leaves so the wildlife will still benefit.
Of course...liver and bacon!

Morning all and thanks for starting us off today @Scarlet. What a joy it was to open the curtains this morning and see sunshine and bright blue skies, even if it was chilly! I noticed the postman has ditched his shorts now in favour of long trousers so it must be getting colder. Today is set to be a mainly dry and sunny day with just a small chance of a shower or two around lunchtime, light winds and top temps of 11 deg.
Not too bad a day yesterday - a few small jobs done around the house, the pinboard I'd ordered for jigsaws was delivered and my energy supplier is reducing my DD by a small amount starting from next month. That came as a surprise as it isn't yet time for my half yearly review - maybe it will go back up when that arrives! I've had to move the butter dish from the worktop to its winter home in the pantry on a shelf under the boiler so it's easier to spread. And I've added a bit of winter hygge to the living room with a set of fairy lights adorning the hearth - doesn't make it any warmer physically of course but it feels cosier!
Heaven knows when I bought them but it must be a long time ago as the price ticket says £1.99.
Today I'll be doing the weekly top up shop while the weather is decent and (hopefully) wash my hair; I've been putting that off, thanks to having earache - still there but not as bad. I need to give the optician a call too to find out if my new glasses are ready for collection, not urgent as I have another pair but I thought I'd have heard something by now. Fish tea tonight followed by a catch up on Murder Before Evensong.
@dp1 - I really hope LO gets to enjoy the swimming and the Halloween party without any mishaps.
@mehefin - Ha ha, no excuse now for putting off the report. Good luck.
@Gers - Just love Jon Stokes' approach to dealing with fallen leaves!
Take care all and enjoy the sunshine while it's here. Hugs and healing wishes for the poorly ones too. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.11 -
Morning all and thanks for the start @Gers x I too think of Nelski and Dumpling often. Nelski’s dinners always sounded fab, and dear Dumpling with her crafting skills x
I got up late again following another rubbish night. Clearly I need the rest. I have a tip run today with sacks of leaves(!) - we have 7 big trees with TPO’s and they shed all over the public footpath. We don’t get road sweepers here and due to the school opposite I feel we should keep the path clear. DS2 will come with me to help.I will do some housework later as this has been neglected due to my fatigue. It’s all go!
Hugs to your DGD @ dp1 I hope she’s doing okay xx
Your planting sounds fab @ScarletRibbons x.
Have a good day all
