I recently applied & was accepted for a Barclays credit card ( 24 months interest free ) through MSE site. I was looking to purchase some electronics. I purchase the goods without issue but before I have even received my first statement I receive a letter saying they are closing my account. I called up to find out why but was told it was a business decision may have had something to do with my previous record with other lenders. I have never had any issues in the past and any payments are always made on time. My question is why would they accept my application & then close the account so soon & how will this affect my credit rating.

Will they still be honouring the 24 months interest free (presuming that was on purchases?)?  Or are they expecting you to clear the account in full immediately?

I suspect what has happened is that your application made it through their automatic processing but on further examination they have discovered something that is already on your credit history that wasn't included on the application for whatever reason.  

Given that the credit rating itself is never seen by anyone but you I would be more concerned with what's on the credit history.  Is there a CCJ that you didn't know about?  Or indications that you haven't paid other creditors at some point?  Have a look at that and come back with more questions if you wish.
