Colleague of mine at work thinks that the best value is Marks and Spencers to buy Euros, no commission and high rate - anyone just looked into this and got views?

Before I bought my travel money when I was going away, I went to 5 different places from Mon-Fri as they were all near my workplace to check out the exchange rate and everyday M&S came out on top for the best exchange rate.
It is commission free on travellers cheques and foreign currency but there is a 1% charge on sterling travellers cheques. You can pay for it on an M&S chargecard and also an M&S &More card and there is no cash advance fee for doing so.0 -
The best place to buy euros is in the place where you are travelling to.
If you withdraw cash from an ATM with a Nationwide Debit Card, there is no transaction fee, no commission, and you get the commercial rate, not the tourist rate, when your statement arrives.
There is no cheaper way of obtaining foreign currency. (It doesn't work, of course, with the "Robber Banks" in the rest of the High Street! They slam you for commission.)0 -
Buy enough to get by with from Travelex online, they give a better rate than the high street and also a better rate than the Travelex shops at the airport, and it is commision free, make sure you pay by debit card, you can pick it up at any airport.
Then do what mrsmartprice advised when you get there, that is the method we use, I don't know about other debit cards, but as was mentioned in the last post Nationwide don't charge a fee on their debit card..0 -
Yes, Nationwide card is the best, next down is exchanging cash at the resort, followed by ATM using a.n.other bank card or pre-ordering with Travelex. The worst rate is exchanging in the UK 'high street' (currently around 4% lower than NWide card). Only advantage of the high street is if you think the £ will drop significantly against the euro between now and when you go.0
