Warning for Anyone Selling Electronics on Vinted – My Experience Losing Money

I wanted to share my recent experience selling my son’s old Xbox and accessories on Vinted to warn other sellers, especially anyone thinking of listing electronics, and it goes wrong.

I did everything right — tested all the equipment, took clear photos, wrapped it carefully in bubble wrap, and kept the buyer updated. Vinted sent the package to their “verification centre,” confirmed it matched my listing, and then shipped it to the buyer.

That’s where things went wrong. The parcel was never delivered and got returned. Instead of simply sending it back to me, Vinted informed me that I had to pay to have my own Xbox returned, even though the failed delivery wasn’t my fault. The buyer got a refund, and I was out of pocket.

When it finally came back, my careful packaging had been replaced with a much larger box and just a few bits of paper for padding. Everything had been knocked around — a complete mess.

I tried to contact Vinted customer service which wasnt easy; however, they offer no seller protection. Even when you follow all their rules, you can lose money and have your items mishandled in the process.

If you’re thinking of selling electronics on Vinted, then just be very wary this doesnt happen to you and you end up out of pocket for following their processes.

Vinted have very little customer service support, I use it a lot but am cautious what I list on there. The one final place to try is legal@vinted.com (I think that's it), but it's 50/50 if they even understand what the issue is.

Surprised to read about a verification centre for games consoles must admit, sold a couple on EBay without such a thing being involved so assumed would be the same all over.

Personally I don't put myself in that situation when it comes to items like that.

I realise that totally narrows down potential buyers & I may have to wait much longer for a sale but I simply don't trust 1) the postal service and 2) people because you just know that some idiot is going to say it isn't as described to con you out of money and then send you a concrete block back as the return & that's not something I'm going to chance.

I sold my PS4 - collection only & cash in hand
Phones that are like £100+ - collection only & cash in hand.

Much less likely to deal with idiots in person. Wasters during the chit-chat process yes but not really in person.

Remember something I sold & posted out. Guy contacted me complaining I'd only sent part of it. I said - you did unwrap the packing FULLY didn't you? Because you'd find both parts are certainly there.

He read it but never responded. Clearly he didn't open the packing fully before moaning.

    Idiots.

Hence why I prefer in person for costly things.
