Don't let people put you off applying. So many supermarkets will want someone who is willing to work the "odd" unpopular shifts and should be more than willing to accommodate someone who can fill that space. It wasn't that long ago that cashiers never even had a chair - that's a recent innovation because it's recognised that standing for long hours isn't good for anyone.Sarah69 said:

In my local Sainsbury’s they don’t even have people on the checkouts most of the time, they only put someone on if a customer asks for it.0

First things first: could adjustments be made to your current job so that you could sit most of the time? Have you had an occupational health assessment? Have you considered Access to Work?

Possibly, but it's still quite a physical job - eg manipulating a 6 pack of beans into a place where you can scan it, then sending it off the conveyor belt and down towards the packing area. Again and again and again.Sarah69 said:

Plus more and more shops have self-scan tills, and whoever is on hand there has no chair.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I’m a healthcare assistant in a hospital so there’s no adjournments unfortunately.I’m a BridgetTheCat said:First things first: could adjustments be made to your current job so that you could sit most of the time? Have you had an occupational health assessment? Have you considered Access to Work?

There is a wide range of jobs that would be sitting down, look at admin type roles as well, or call centre roles. The pay won’t be amazing, but they may give you what you need.Sarah69 said:Hi,Can anyone tell me what/if the women who work on the tills in these shops are called? Also for anyone who has recently worked as one is this the only role on your shift or are you expected to take turns in putting stock out. I’m sort of looking for a job where it’s sitting only as I have osteoarthritis in my feet. I do a job now with 12 hours on feet 3 times a week and it’s getting extremely painful.0 -
Have you seen your Occupational Health department for an assessment? You clearly can’t work mainly sitting down as a healthcare assistant, but there may be other roles that you can do. Hospitals are large employers with many roles, you could be redeployed into something else. The NHS have good Occupational Health Support so do tap into that.Sarah69 said:
