Pip Review

Hi,
Was just wondering if anyone has any idea what this could mean. My son had sent a pip review months ago. He has been on the middle care rate and no mobility. He has been receiving around £290 every four weeks. Got a text couple of days ago saying review complete wait for letter to see outcome etc. Is due pip in a couple of days so around 4/5 days after the text. Bank shows payment that day to be £340 instead of £290. It's just intriguing me personally as to what that extra £50 is. Can't be a raised award such as added mobility because it would be more than £50. It's just an odd amount to be raised by. Any Sherlock Holmes folk out there who have any idea what that could be to satisfy my nosiness? lol

Middle care rate is DLA, not PIP. Standard rate care for PIP is the same as middle rate DLA. Has he been switched to PIP? It might be a timing issue as to when he is paid.

Weekly PIP payments range from £73.90 to £110.40 for the daily living component and £29.20 to £77.05 for the mobility component.

Assuming it is only the daily living component then you've been paid 4.6 weeks of the standard rate or a mixture of both.

Sounds like they did a paper assessment (unless you had a full assessment - but you would know of this) at that point the DLA stops and PIP applies.   The letter they send you will explain it all, including any back pay if applicable.

Double checked my info. He's been on pip for three years. Never been on dla. Had a pip review. got a text a few days ago saying after months of waiting the review has been done and to wait for a letter. His bank shows this coming payment in a couple of days is around 40 more than usual and that amount doesn't make any sense. He gets daily living lower  normally which is usually around 290 every 4 weeks so this coming payment of 330 is higher.

In that case it will probably be a mixture of the standard amount before and a higher award after the decision, as they calculate it on number of days (so for example if he had 3 weeks 2 days of standard then 5 days of the higher rate, for the next payment - just an example, I don't have the brainpower to work it out based on actual amounts).

The 4 weekly amount for PIP standard Daily Living is £295.60 by my calculation.

If there is a higher amount coming in on an expected four weekly payment date then it implies to me a higher award of some denomination has been made and this is partially reflected in the next payment (which may be a proportion of older payment amount and new payment amount). I could be wrong... decision letter will tell you. But the fact this is an existing claim in payment, and payment relates to anticipated day of usual payment, and standard review makes me think backdating probably isn't a factor in any anomaly but rather an adjustment to the standard payment. If you can't wait for letter then call them on DWP PIP helpline - despite what they say in texts they often will detail a decision letter they can see on their system. The other option is to call the line and get the automated details of next payment after the current payment.. as that should reflect the true payment situation going forward if there has been changed award.
