My iPad Air 4 (about a year old) has started showing the “Liquid Detected” warning when charging. It’s been kept upright in a warm room, and the warning has mostly gone, but charging is very slow and sometimes the alert comes back.

I’ve tried:

  • Fully shutting it down while charging
  • Using an Apple plug (cable may or may not be genuine)
  • Letting it dry 18+ hour

I’m wondering

  • Can non-Apple or non-MFi cables trigger false “liquid detected” warnings?
  • Has anyone had this issue and managed to fix it without replacing the iPad?
  • Any tips on which MFi USB-C cables work reliably with the iPad Air 4?

Would love to hear if anyone’s experienced this and what actually worked for you — real-world tips appreciated!

Thanks for any advice. I really don’t want to head off to apple if possible

  • Have you cleaned out, carefully, the charging port on the iPad?

I've never had issues charging Apple devices with generic leads.

Liquid detection detects the short between pins caused by water. If there's something conductive (like a speck of foil) in the port then the phone will think there's water. So give it a gentle clean.

I seem to be up andd running again. I did do a gentle clean,  turned the machine of completely - General - Shutdown turned the iPad with the charging port facing downand started a recharge.  It must have taken a good 36 hours till I reached 100 percent from one percent I’m guessing that and a warm room cleared and thing there
  • Glad you got it sorted.  I've removed a fair bit of fluff from charging ports in the past.

Always worth restarting tech as it often resets things and resolves issues.
