Thank you Slinky 🙂
I also have never heard of it so investigating is the next job.
It's obviously tough to be in sand and turf beside an open bay. I'm looking to see if it's only small because of the growing conditions because those leaves are large 😲
Wonder what the flowers are like?
Yes, I could load other photos the same size so very odd that this wouldn't.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

So, it's Clerodendrum not Ugni.I've grown it, but with me, it's a case of “Those you have loved and are no more!”I recall a tree beside the road at Instow, but that was a long time ago.RHS says it's hardy: https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/90440/clerodendrum-trichotomum/details

It can also be used as a dye plant, using the berries to produce a startling (if you're used to only using natural dyes) shade of blue or green.3

I'd like to try that but the tree is in an open public spot so plucking wouldn't be approved of.
However one or two berries may have fallen off and I'd have seeds then too.
Though I think I'm too old to grow trees from seed 😉I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
