Last time this happened I just got in touch with BMW and they took it on, got may car fixed and my insurance were never involved. I'm in a Vauxhall now but I assume they have a similar assistance program.
Every man and his dog has a deal with one accident management company or another to offer credit hire and repairs to their customers under a branding agreement... thats just how lucrative the business is.

Almost certainly you are contractually obliged to inform your insurers in the same way you were last time. Up to you if you want them to deal with it, want an accident management company to inflate the costs or if you trust the third party to pay up.

Personally if you go the final route I'd get them to pay you in advance of the repairs being done acknowledging the final bill may vary from the estimate. Seen too many cases where the repair has been done then the TP doesnt pay up etc. At that point no accident management company is interested as it's too late for their silly priced credit hire and your insurers won't be happy dealing with repaired damage without an engineers pre-repair inspection etc.

Good point. I think that's the option I'm going to offer him with a modest amount on top for time and hassle.

I've just renewed the insurance on our 2nd car, not the one that was hit at the rear, and the information about that shows on that policy document.  No costs involved and no premium increase or reduced NCD.
    Cars insured with different companies.
