Hi, just doing a bit of digging on behalf of my son and wonder if anyone has had their offspring go on a bit of a far flung road trip.  He's going to several countries (Indonesia/Malasyia/Australia/Thailand etc) I think it's important for him to have repatriation insurance. Can anyone give any guidance generally and/or if there's any specialist insurance companies for this kind of trip. Tried a few insurance companies but price seems to range between £300 - £700 .  Any advice gratefully received.  Thanks.

Hi, just doing a bit of digging on behalf of my son and wonder if anyone has had their offspring go on a bit of a road trip before settling down.  He's going to several countries (Indonesia/Malasyia/Australia) over a 4 month period.  I seem to recall that it's very important to ensure he has repatriation insurance for, god forbid, any serious medical problems which entails having to get back to the UK.  Can anyone give any guidance generally and/or if there's any specialist insurance companies for this kind of trip.  I did a quick search (using his details ovbiously) with one of Martin's suggested insurers, Admiral, and the quote comes back at £800, even with the MSE 20% discount.  Seems very excessive but if maybe that's what's got to be expected when country-hopping, even in safe countries.  Any advice gratefully received.  Thanks.
Backpacker as mentioned above is normally the choice for low cost but long duration insurance. The focus tends to be on the medical side of things than on cancelling a luxury hotel or loss of your LV suitcase etc.

Cost will depend on age, pre-existing conditions etc too. A big Q will be if he will venture to North America and/or Caribbean or not. If he wants that possibility covered costs will be much higher given the cost of healthcare out there (and Caribbean as often tourists will be airlifted to the US to deal with major illnesses)

Thanks. Backpacker seems a good idea.  No plans to go anywhere near North America or Caribbean.
