The offer stated £100 per month. No mention of the £1000 total.
So I have been underpaying by about £50 per month and they now want the full payment for £500. When complaining, my most optimistic expectation waa that they would write off the £500. I was certainly surprised by the generous offer of what would be £1000. So whilst it is unexpected I don't think it is a clearly obvious mistype.
The initial complaint is registered. I have expressed my disappointment with their revised offer and encouraged them to pass to legal dept. I will wait to see what they come.back with.
But how does that effect your supplier getting readings?Life in the slow lane2 -

That type of app would rely on the supplier getting the readings to then inform the app.
If the supplier does not receive the smart reader readings, then the same amount of electricity has still been used and the billing should revert to the old days of "dumb" meters, so estimated bill unless a manual read is noted.1 -

I don’t understand why the OP has not been checking bills for 10 months, not noticing they are estimated and not therefore submitted readings.1 -

Probably indicates that there was either the meter wasn't operating correctly or it wasn't registered correctly.0 -
This is a bit like one of those many threads that keep coming up on the Motoring board.
People rely on SatNav or phone apps like Waze to notify them of the speed limit. These people ignore or do not register what they can see with their own eyes through the windscreen and get caught speeeding.
I keep getting bombarded about getting a smart meter but I don't know why I need one. I'm a sentient human being and I know what's turned on (or on standby) and whether it's drawing power or not.
In another couple of generations we'll have great great grandchildren who are so thick they'll need an app to remind them they have an app to remind that they have an app to remind them to go to the toilet.3 -

All the apps say that the user is responsible for entering the correct data to connect with the meter, including any changes made by the energy supplier, and of course no energy supplier has any obligation to supply accurate data to random third-party apps.0 -

Not much will change, except people living underwater and your great-great-great-grandaughter will be doing fine

Never bothered with octopus app to check readings, as all I need is app for charging car.
We have a early smart meter. Octopus do get readings, but if checking Octopus website can take a couple of days to show up. Just checked app & yesterday is there, but not on website.
Op should have realised by bills that readings were estimated (as it says that) & as such passed reading on.Life in the slow lane0 -
Octopus were not receiving anything from my smart meter for about three months. When I looked at the app it was showing no usage so I read the meter each month and put the reading on the Octopus website. A statement followed the next day.1
