Burnt bathroom mirror light cover - any need to get electrician out re possible short circuit?

Good point by IC - the burnt debris on that shade appears to be more than what would be created by a spray of Viakal, so I wonder if what you are looking at is the indelicate fragrance known as 'scorched wipe'?Really worth an attempt at cleaning - becoming progressively more aggressive - but worst case is that a replacement is required. For this, if you are lucky, you may find a second-hand item on eBay, as I suspect the shade on its own will not be available from the manufacturer or supplier (but always worth a shot). To search, you'd ideally need the actual make for this - I see near-equivalents, but measuring would be required to determine whether they are similar.I'm not trying to defend the silly actions of your cleaner, but anyone not familiar with the significant heat generated by halogen capsules, in particular ones in such close proximity to its surrounding glass shade, would not expect to be 'scorched' by a simple wipe-over.Good luck in finding a replacement shade. Should you manage this, and even if you don't, please do consider LED replacement bulbs - they are truly awesome. I replaced that size of capsule - G9? - with LED a good few months ago, and they are indistinguishable to the remaining halogens in the same fitting. But, the shades on mil's ceiling light were larger than these, so had more room.0

You could just stick the shade in the dishwasher. Can't really make it any worse.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?1
