Lloyds Ultra credit card

I've been reading about this new cashback card - 1% unlimited for a year. But according to the eligibility calculator on the website I have zero chance of being approved - and so no link appears. How does this calculator work - I have £90,000 pensions and other income, zero mortgage, home owner? All other cashback cards are at 100% chance of approval?

I though I'd give it a go, just applied and was successful subject to final checks with a credit limit of £9,000
Now off to read the 5 emails that pinged into my inbox during the process.1 -
I went on-line directly with Lloyds and filled in an application, and a message appeared "your application is under review. Please do not apply again." Within 30 minutes I received and email that it was approved. I went on-line and the card had appeared in my Lloyds on-line banking page. I then applied to add my wife, and that was over and done with in 5 minutes. So, I suspect there is a problem with the MSE calculator.2

It's always better to use the eligibility checker on the bank's website rather than the MSE checker. It will be more accurate.1

Hahaha they are idiots
They just rejected me as well. £000s in pensions and other income, zero mortgage, home owner, six figure amount in one of my bank accounts. 0 -
It is possible that they are looking for customers who are likely to pay interest, in order to offset the cost of offering 1% cashback. Therefore, someone who is well off and likely to pay off the balance each month, while spending a lot to get lots of cashback, may not be their target customer...4

I applied for this card but it was rejected. Guess I will stick with the Amex.0

Nah this line gets tossed around all the time, they still get merchant fees which helps offset the cashback, though the people not paying in full do obviously subsidise those who don't and I had no issue getting the card despite a much lower income that the guy above and have a long history of paid in full every month with Lloydsn1david said:It is possible that they are looking for customers who are likely to pay interest, in order to offset the cost of offering 1% cashback. People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I have never held a Lloyds Credit Card nor had an account with them.Always pay my current credit cards off in full every month and have done so for over 20 years.Am retired on an income slightly above the national average income. Live in social extra-care housing (rented).Just been accepted for the Ultra card with an indicated £5k credit limit (more than enough for me).2

On 07/10/2025 I received an email from Lloyds thanking me for having a credit [their cashback] card with them and suggesting that if I was looking for another credit card account, the new Lloyds Ultra Credit Card could be for me. I used their eligibility checker to see if I could swap the (very seldom used) cashback card for the Ultra card and was advised they couldn't offer it to me.
Then I got the MSE email naming it as a top pick on 14 October and decided to try MSE's own eligibility checker, which returned a result of 100% pre-approved. Duly applied and received confirmation my application was successful, and now waiting for the new card to arrive. I wasn't invited to log in during the application process, so wondering if and when the system will add the new card to my existing online account and app.0 -
My card was added immediately to my Lloyds app and I spent some on Amazon about 30 mins later - the transaction then showed up immediately as 'pending'1
