MSE News: Using a claims management firm but unhappy with it? Your cancellation rights explained

If you've signed up to a claims management firm or law firm – to help you reclaim mis-sold car finance, for example – you may now find it easier to cancel if you no longer want to go ahead. FCA should have dealt with this lot years ago when PPI claims was ongoing. As it was clear then what was going on.

    As per above.

  • Unfortunately I am having issues with Oulton Alexander trying to get them not to deal with a mis-selling finance claim on my husbands behalf. I had already submitted and received acknowledgement of a claim with the finance company several months before hand. My husband is severely dyslexic (officially diagnosed)and tends to scroll through his phone and thought he was doing a search not realising he had signed up to them. He also deletes e-mails that he doesn't recognise and does this frequently. . He got an e-mail which he opened and saw they were confirming action against the finance firm and forwarded it to me which was when I realised he had signed up in error. After contacting them to advise them of the circumstances they are now wanting to charge an exit fee of £84 plus VAT or agree to continue to let them act on his behalf. I am trying to appeal based on the fact that he was completely unaware of the implications of what he thought was just a search. (Sadly this is a frequent situation that I have to deal with as he often signs up for things without realising because he doesn't read and comprehend the full terms etc). I am now trying to deal with this but it looks like they are going to try and press on with charges anyway. There needs to be more protection for people who have disabilities that affect their ability to comprehend written correspondence.
