Should a vacuum last more than 12 months?

I bought a Samsung vacuum from an online store and after 11 months it kept stopping on one speed. The store said to return it to Samsung repair centre which I did. They've now said that it's because of excess dirt on the filters and want to charge £88 to replace these, but have also said that after that there might be something else that will affect the price. The vacuum cost £149.
I have regularly cleaned the filter and looked after the vacuum. There are only 2 of us in the house, no pets, partly hard floor and we're often away. So the vacuum hasn't had heavy use. I realise that filters are consumables, but didnt think they would need replacing so soon. Having had a number of vacuum cleaners in my life and used them in my cleaning job I would have expected the filters to last longer than this. Am I missing something here?
I'm not sure what to do next. Should I contact Samsung direct or the shop where I bought it or do I buy new filters myself? I begrudge doing the latter because of the short time I've had the machine.

Should a vacuum last longer than 12 months? Absolutely
Should a filter last longer than 12 months? Depends on a number of factors, so hard to say.1 -
£88 to replace the filters.

I decided to contact Samsung customer service and discovered that the engineer had said it was 'customer misuse'. 😠 I managed to restrain myself and the very nice person on the other end offered to have it repaired under the warranty. So hopefully all will be well. 🤞
We now have a problem with our Bosch kettle and the warranty is up tomorrow. Aaargh...
