But I have two no fault accidents in the last 12ish years, when these were declarable while seeking renewal quotes within 3 (or was it 5) years, I was asked to declare the cost of repairs, why was this?
Guess - as a way of quantifying the "seriousness" of the accident (when the cost of repair is considered, not the total of the claim)?

Genuine question as a side note.....

Quite a few posters here have said the repair bill is of no consequence (if I have understood correctly).

But I have two no fault accidents in the last 12ish years, when these were declarable while seeking renewal quotes within 3 (or was it 5) years, I was asked to declare the cost of repairs, why was this?
I have never been told the cost of a claim, except once when I specifically asked.

When asked to declare the cost (not every insurer asks), I have replied "Don't know", and that has never caused a problem.

Because every insurer is different and whilst 95% may not even ask that leaves the 5% that does. You may get a distorted view because confused.com etc has to ask the questions that all med-large players want even if most people ignore it.
