Just to update, I have been refunded the money from Halifax!  All done over the phone, they started off being really defensive and pointing out that I wasn’t automatically due a refund etc etc and weren’t really listening to what had happened, cutting me off mid flow etc but when they finally realised I actually had an email from booking com cancelling the booking it all changed and the money was refunded within the hour!

However, we were looking at booking com yesterday and I’m pretty sure the same/similar scammers are advertising again on there, some of it looked very familiar ie no reviews, new to the platform etc.

Have they processed it as s75 or chargeback?  The former is generally a more drawn out timescale but offers final closure, but the latter will typically entail a quick, but provisional, refund, which, even if unchallenged by the merchant within the 45 day window thereafter, can still leave the claimant subject to debt recovery by the merchant.
