I seem to recall that these are no longer recommended / allowed ?

I've always thought they were pretty dangerous if your child is intelligent. If you turn the plug upside down so the long prong still goes into the top hole and therefore makes the bottom two holes open.

Saying that, probably not much more worse than foreign plug sockets that don't have the third safety prong.

Electric wall sockets already have shutters. You
can stick something into them and electrocute yourself.
