I would not expect a general travel insurance policy to cover this type of event.

I also understand that car hire excess policies usually cover insurance excess from a collision or theft event.  I would not expect many car hire excess policies to cover a mechanical failure such has occurred in this case.

It is Excess Europe single trip with Gigasure. I started my claim.

The car rental's insurance policy never covers mechanical failures, as I just discovered from research.

If these insurance do not cover mechanical faults, then what insurance can cover such damages? If insurances cannot cover mechanical faults such as clutch burn, how would a renter protect themselves?

Because this is basically a lottery game, it can fall down to whoever drives the car whereas the clutch has worn down.
