Hear hear... if I could get my £268k out now, I would. I also wouldn't have any buyers remorse whatsoever, yes you can't entirely/immediately shield it from tax outside the SIPP wrapper, but there are ways to minimise exposure as per this thread, that make it worth getting it out of a wrapper that seems to be this government's own personal cash cow.

Of course, they could remove the CGT exemption for gilts, but given their need to borrow, making their own debt less attractive would be a bit of an own goal...

Yes, if they remove the CGT exemption on gilts then all this is up in the air. With the lunatics in charge of the asylum I wouldn't put anything past them!
