Drop Off Charge T1 M/cr Airport

Apologies if similar issues have been covered previously. 29 Sep, 04:26 in the morning (and dark) I dropped my wife off at the Drop Off Zone. Didn't see any signage on the way in, dropped passenger off, left after under 3 mins. Expecting to pay at a barrier I found there wasn't one!!! Don't visit often but there was one there last visit (over 12 months ago). So, today (9 Oct) I receive a Parking Charge for £100 (or £60 if I pay within 28 days. I feel I have been scammed. What is your advice please?
