Marriage tax allowance

i couldn’t find a topic for the above title so went with the closest one, marriage tax allowance, I applied for it for me to give my husband part of my allowance or however it works, this was “accepted” BUT when I check online on our government gateway pages, it still says his is the usual £12570 (I think it is), his tax code has also NOT changed and is just the standard tax code 1257L, I contacted Hmrc, they said on their side yes it’s all gone through, I queried the tax code not being changed and his allowance still being the same and he said to ring another day, am I incorrect in thinking his tax code should be different or is it wrong?

When did you apply ?
For future reference, the most appropriate board would probably be the 'Cutting Tax' one0 -
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) will give your partner the allowance you have transferred to them either:
- by changing their tax code - this can take up to 2 months

The other thing to note is that it does not matter if it takes a couple of months for codes to change: tax liability will be adjusted through payroll and a small refund may come to the one with the higher code.
The thing to check is, once you / DH have a new tax code, does the employer change the code immediately? Most will, but if it's a small employer then occasionally they may fail to check for and apply new codes.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Hello, does your codes have M or N after them? We have guidance on the mechanics of the marriage allowance and the tax code situation here: https://www.litrg.org.uk/tax-nic/income-tax/tax-allowances/marriage-allowance-transferable-tax-allowance. Thanks“Official Company Representative

Unless he is a higher rate taxpayer his code number should end with M indicates the marriage transfer allowance.ILikeABargain1 said:I believe it was march or around then we applied for it, his tax code still ends with L.
When you enquired they would only tell you about your record and confirmed it had been updated.
Your husband will need to contact HMRC and explain the allowance has been transferred from you but his code number has not been updated. Is there anything noted on his personal tax account about the transfer.?0
