Hah! I too was aware of J.L.’s birthday, I have a doctor’s appointment for today, and when the doc made the appointment I said “Oh, John Lennon’s birthday” He looked it up and was surprised it was true.Chrisca50 said:Morning allCalm here with a tiny bit of sun up there tooFinished housework downstairs, now waiting for the floors to dry. Morning everyone
Thanks for the good wishes from everyone, it's a different kind of Covid than I had last time my nose keeps on streaming and I have to keep running to the loo, then in between I feel hungry. The steroids and antibiotics have definitely helped my chest so that's good.
Little one has gone on her school trip this morning, DD has gone for some Christmas shopping at the Metrocentre so she's close by if needed, fingers crossed she won't be. She could have just gone on the bus with her, but little one wanted to go by herself and DD thought it best to have the car there just in case.
Thanks Wicked lady for the soup recipe, I'm going to get on with it now I only have chicken stock cubes but I don't suppose that will matter too much, For some reason I thought it needed cream in it.
I've got some washing in so I'll get that outside soon...I'm planning on some gentle pottering.
Mehefin your idea of a St Christopher is a lovely one x
Redruby pleased to hear about your new client and that Matt will be getting the help he needs...and his mum! I've had my share of very small autistic children who can be very strong and unstoppable once they're upset, I really don't know how carers cope when dealing with a fully grown young adult.
right i'm going to move...hope everyone has a good day x

So today has started really slowly, I’m lounging around in my new M&S pyjama bottoms which please me more than they reasonably should. I might hastily add that there are other clothes, I was just mentioning my greater enjoyment of one part of the outfit as well as enjoying lounging which I don’t normally allow myself to do. Athedog did collapse this morning (he’s 15 next month and had IVDD paralysis at 4 yrs) but after flapping around a bit, I worked out it was just temporary. I managed to shove some packed lunch into DH’s bag before he left, he too was at sixes and sevens and had accidentally drunk my tea from the ones I’d set out last night “to save time in the morning”! fingers crossed my iron levels have gone up - Doc’s appointment in an hour. If not we have to have a plan which I hope doesn’t involve any more tests - I think my ears are the only orifice that haven’t been explored in the past seven months. I’ll have to travel to Mum’s house to check the surveyor locked up and actually looked at what he said he looked at. (There’s been some somewhat suspicious issues raised such as the roof being entirely rotten and needing replacing. A) you can only get your head through any of the three loft hatches to look - visiting will tell me if he did that and
the roof was completely replaced 20+ years ago (I have a full set of photos of it being done.) I’ve got to plan the finer details of my friend’s visit tomorrow or Saturday - she’s hard to pin down on details.
It sounds as if most of you on here do have life issues, but that your pathways through are fairly clear, and that you are following them. Good luck with them anyway.6 -
Good to see you posting @Topher sounds like a lot going on. That’s really annoying about the buyer, I hope you can re-market the property asap.Hope all goes well with your medical appointment xCross-stitch WIP: Haberdashery Shop Fiver Friday challenge 2026 founding member 😊 Read 26 books in 2026 7/26 Currently reading Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi7

Afternoon all, I've changed my routine today hence the later than usual post. Weather is pretty much the same as yesterday - mainly cloudy, some sunny intervals, dry, moderate breeze and highs of 16 deg, chilly mornings and evenings.
@-taff - Welcome back, glad you had a nice time in Germany. Thanks for the suggestion of using an online company for specs, I'll bear that in mind for next time. As it happens, the new frames come free since I've had them from the optician's suppliers before so it's just the lenses to pay for and that's not an exorbitant cost as they're relatively simple ones. Eye test itself also free.
@dp1 - My recipe for leek & potato soup is more or less the same as how WL does it. A chicken stock cube instead of a veg one is fine, I also add some dried thyme (goes well with potatoes) and you can add a dollop of cream or ordinary milk if you want a creamed version.
@Ruby - Pleased to hear you've been offered the job by the new family that will replace the one with Matt. He does sound very challenging so a residential seems to be the right way to go for all concerned.
@Gers - Safe travels, have a fab time away. I hate pockets and actually sew them closed if they're in side seams; I've enough of a muffin top without making it look even worse with bulging pockets!
@mehefin - The gift of a St Christopher for your friend is a lovely idea, I'm sure she'll be delighted.
@topher - You've got a lot on your plate right now and it always seems worse in the wee hours so I'm not surprised you're feeling wiped out. It will all come good in the end but, in the meantime, don't be too hard on yourself - you can only do what you can do.
I'm another one that starts to feel "down" at this time of year at the thought of the long, dark winter months stretching ahead, especially once the clocks have gone back, but particularly this year as the end of this month brings the first anniversary of DH's passing. I'm reminding myself that will be the last of the "firsts" and I'll get through it like all the other "firsts". Not sure yet what I'll do on the day (if anything) but a toast in his memory will definitely be on the cards - I think he'd haunt me if I didn't!
Right, time to get on but I'm sending healing thoughts for our poorly contingent with best wishes for swift recoveries. Take care all, enjoy your day whatever it may bring. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.7 -
Blimey topher, that's a lot to be dealing with. I always used to think [ still do really] that as long as two of the three pillars of your life are good, you can cope with any amount of poo coming your way but if to go, then it is dangerous territory....The three pillars being work, friends and family....I've always liked winter, it's a chance to hise under baggy warm clothes, hunker down and look at pictures of fire or go and be warm in the crispy cold...over the last ten years ish I've enjoyed it even more I think, mostly because of gardening. i like to put the garden to bed for the winter, harvest stuff and plan and do jobs that can only be done in the winter, so looking at seeds, imagining new layouts, what I can grow that's new, what I can propagate etc, and I do think that having a little bit of greenery to look after is good for the soul and I've also found that doing takes away the need for thinking, so is a welcome respite...To anyone who doesn't care for the winter, all this will pass and it won't be long before the skies are warm again because time does actually fly....hugs n stuff....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi7

Thank you everyone but particularly -taff YorksLass and Coxy11 for your kind comments (if anyone can show me how to highlight the names of forumites I’m wanting to refer to by name I’d be grateful. That @-taff other people manage to do for example). So sorry YorksLass about your upcoming anniversary it must be very tough for you and I hope you’re surrounded by love.
Docs app. showed no improvement in iron levels so yet another test required, this time thankfully a swallowed tablet camera to “reach the places the other cameras couldn’t reach” although how what they filmed before didn’t meet in the middle is anyone’s guess - I was very thoroughly spatchcocked. (Not at the same time).
Anyway continued anaemia is good reason not to feel guilty about that part time occupation being suspended, I couldn’t possibly have done it on these energy levels. Nothing to do but leave things in the hands of the Good Lord (other Good Lords and Gods are available, terms and conditions apply) and snuggle down for some hibernation. I’ll emerge for ash scattering up here, and a memorial thing in London next weekend (a long winded journey this hibernating hamster could do without).
@taff @YorksLass @Coxy11
I may have answered my own question.6
