Hive - no signal

Just moved into a new house with heating (only) controlled by Hive thermostat. I have not used remote control nor do I wish to but after a few days the thermostat lost signal connection to the thing wired into the boiler. I’ve gone through the user guide and online FAQs with no success. I’ve emailed hive help with no reply. Tried chat but refused access as there is no paid account.

Any ideas?

Have you tried turning the thermostat and hub off and then on again after counting to ten?

Is there any reference to 'pairing' in the user guide / FAQs?

Why would you not want to use the app? It lets you schedule your heating times and switch it on and off remotely even away from home

When you say 'new house' do you mean literally new or new-to-you? In any case I'd ask the previous owner whether they had any problem  and how they used the Hive system. Is the Hive system still under warranty?
How does the thermostat connect to the boiler? Do they both use wi-fi and do they show up on the network? Or what?

Is the hub still in the house?

I may be wrong but I think the Thermostat can communicate with the unit wired to the boiler without the need for the hub.

Our Hive thermostat is the larger model and it can be removed from the wall by sliding it off the wall mounted bracket. If yours is the same, try removing it and moving it closer to the Hive unit wired to the boiler.

If the thermostat is some distance from the boiler unit it may be struggling to connect.

I ended up buying a plug-in signal booster from Hive because our Hive thermostat was failing to connect reliably to the boiler unit due to thick walls and the distance between the two.

Yes, it can. They name it "stand alone" mode.
The instructions for connecting this was are accessible on Hive's website. Although I must confess they are not very easy to follow.
I recently had a receiver failure (wired into system) and, having BG Homecare, it was replaced by them. The engineer did have to phone Hive for the connecting procedure - thermostat to receiver and hub to receiver.
If the OP does have a hub it should show a steady green l.e.d. indicating it's connected to Hive.

My Hive thermostat recently lost connection with the hub. Following online instructions I removed the thermostat from the wall then removed and replaced (the same) batteries in the back. This forced a reconnection. It’s been fine since, even after a prolonged power cut.

My understanding is that Hive is linked to the person that set it up and can't be transferred. Is that still the case?

Edit: looks like this has changed now

Thanks for all your comments. In the end I paid £30 to join the scheme, got them to tell me how to fix it (not as per instructions) and will cancel my subscription within 14 days.
