Karcher online returns

I bought a Karcher EDM 2 mop on line after seeing their TV campaign. I tried to use it but its useless and nothing like I expected. I want to return it direct to Karcher in Oxford where it was shipped from but they absolutely refuse to accept it as a return because Ive opened it and used it. I understand that under Distance Selling rules I have a legal right to return an item within 14 days even if its used, but not fit for purpose.

Kind of but not really, and it depends on what you mean by "not fit for purpose"

The Consumer Contracts Regulations allows you to return item ordered online within 14 days - but the retailer can deduct an amount from the refund if you've "handled" the item more than you would be able to in a store.    Depending on the item and what's been "done" to it, this could be the full amount.  So in general, you can take things out of their boxes to look at them.  If they're clothes you can try them on.   But you wouldn't be able to try out a mop in the shop.  So you should still be able to return it, but you won't get all your money back.

You could also return with a longer period at item if it was *genuinely* "not fit for purpse" - but I doubt that is the case here, it's not the same as "I don't like it" and "it's not what I expected".   It means the item is not able to perform the function it was sold for.
A jelly hammer, or chocolate teapot would be not fit for purpose if sold functional items, (but would be fine if sold as a novelty confectionary)
