More stairs stuff - costs?

Hi
Thanks to everyone who commented and gave me ideas on my stairs thread. I now have a plan that I think will work. The stairs will finish in the same place and the front right bedroom will change from being 3 x 3m to 2 x 4m (approx), so not loosing to much. I have attached images of current and proposed plan and also the stairs I think would work. I would like to use some of the space above the stairs for storage in the bedroom. Would anyone be able to give me any idea of cost. I'm assuming the wall I wish to remove is load bearing, also there will be some electrical work (move lights and switches, new sockets?) and plastering. Tia

I'm struggling to imagine what's happening at the top of the stairs - do you step sideways from the top step to the landing ?

You can probably tell my drawing is not professionally produced! The proposed stairs end in the same place as the original ones, the door to the altered bedroom is on the left at the top of the stairs, one bedroom door in front of you and you would turn right to access the other rooms.

As I said in the other thread, I don't think this layout will work without further changes because 1) having enough headroom at the bottom of the stairs and 2) the floor of the modified bedroom needs to be supported by something.

You'd need a SE to investigate and come up with a design which works.

Because you might or might not need to do major structural work, the cost is going to vary considerably, and any numbers we suggest will just be guesses.

Yes, I can see that they end at the same place, but with the original ones you ended up facing the landing when you reached the top, whereas with your proposed design  when you get to the top of the stairs the landing will be on your left. I imagine you'd probably need a wide step the width of the landing (like step#2) at the top of the flight , and if you do that then I'm not sure how less steep they'll end up.

As otthers have suggested,  I really think you need to get a professional to come and have a look to advise on what options are possible how much they are likely to cost.

I'm not sure I understand what the issue is with where the stairs end. The proposed stairs fit UK regulations and the the space. I'm not criticising you and I appreciate your input, I'm just not getting it.
It's difficult to get someone in when I don't own the property. I'm trying to work out the higher end of costs to see if it is affordable. When we bought our current house it was near impossible to get anyone to look at the roof.

I think it's already been mentioned but a lot will depend on which way your joists are running. You may need to introduce a way of supporting the joists in the bedroom when you cut through for the new stair case. It's really hard for anyone to give you a good idea of price without seeing the building. You're probably looking at around £1500 for the staircase to be made though if you want something half decent. Beyond that, it's a stab in the dark depending on what structural changes are needed.

I'm thinking of the worst case, supporting where the bedroom wall is removed and supporting the bedroom floor where the stairs will go. Stairs are about £600 to have delivered, but obviously fitting will be more. Would £10,000 cover the worst scenario?

I'd suggest you want to use a budget worst-case of two or three times that - say £30k.  Certainly enough it would make the project economically unviable.

This is why you need professional input - a structural engineer will give you a much better idea of how difficult your option would be, and could possibly suggest alternatives that could work out cheaper.

Everything hinges on the details of how the existing structure works, only a SE can really do the investigation and necessary design.
