Washing machine help!

Hi all,

Just did a load of washing and decided to run the “spin only” function after as I recently read it could cut drying time.  Unfortunately it started banging quite violently so I stopped the machine, opened the door and found my pj bottom leg tangled in the rubber rim.

Never had anything like this, but a metal loop with a spring fell out the door.  It’s obviously come from somewhere but I can’t for the life of me remember noticing it before.

So I’ve attached photos and would be super grateful if anyone has an idea of where it should be.  I’m hoping to pop it back on and test the machine on a quick wash.

Machine is a Swan 9kg 1400 purchased 30/06/24 if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Ps the grey rubber seal was partially detached and I just pushed it back into place.

That wire ring secures the rubber gasket in place.
Try a Google for vids showing how to refit the gasket - it can be surprisingly easy if followed, and nigh-on impossible if you don't know.
    Make and model?
Is the rubber ok? They aren't costly to buy, I don't think.

Post a photo with the door open, and dont use it without the spring clip on!

    Thank you both!

@WIAWSNB that helps a lot as I had not idea what to google.  The rubber seal itself seems ok, I moulded it back on when it was still hot and seems to have hardened and set back in place.  It’s just knowing where the metal ring should go or even knowing what went wrong.

@Lorain, that’s the door open but I’ll post with it shut.  I agree, I’m too scared to use it without - it obviously has a function but I’m just not sure where I try to reattach.  Here’s it shut

    Search for other videos too.
I recall doing this years ago with an indesit, and simply not managing to work it out by myself. A video showed - I *think* - the trick being to invert the rubber, pulling the inner out through the larger outer - and fitting the outer first to the door aperture, and then the inner was pushed back in and fitted around the drum.
Whatever the method was, it worked a treat.
    Will search...
A bit different to what I thought, but this seems clear:

Sorry I must be blind. Rubber looks ok just refit the spring then, in the groove as per what I expect the videos are showing.

    How old is the WM?
As far as I know - and it seems to be the case with all the WMs I've owned - the rubber should be very rubbery and flexible at all times. If the rubber goes noticeably hard when cold, it may be simply too old.
    They are not expensive.

The loop secures the rubber seal to the body of the machine - without it the door will not be water tight.  Do not run the machine without getting it back on.  See the video above, right near the end.  He makes it look easy, I had to do the same on my own machine, and it involved a lot of swearing!

Thanks everyone - really appreciate your help, especially the how to videos!

I can confirm I got there in the end, had to walk away a good few times out of sheer frustration but I was determined.

Feeling quite proud of myself that I managed it, had a new kitchen floor laid a couple of weeks ago and everything seems to be going wrong in the kitchen now so it was a relief to be able to fix it.

I suppose the proof will come when I next put on a wash so fingers crossed!
