  • Hi - I am thinking of doing this switch.  I am already with BG and want to switch to BG.  I am concerned that I will be charged the early exit fee though.  Has this gone smoothly with other people who have done the same?  Thanks
  • No early exit fee if internal switch.
  • Hi,

I'm already a customer of Britisg Gas and switched my tariff to MSE Collective Nov 26 on 30 Sept for my main residence, and it went through OK.

On 1 Oct I tried to switch for my second residence from OVO to British Gas MSE Collective Nov 26 and nothing happened. British Gas told me they had not been notified. I sent a query to the MSE help team but they have not replied yet.

With time running out I have tried the switch again yesterday and await what happens. I sent another email yesterday to the MSE help team reminding them of the problem I had, but as of this morning have still not had a reply.

I must have changed Tariff within British Gas at least 4 or 5 times this year. Every time I spot a new tariff which is slightly cheaper, or a longer period, I change even if I'm only saving £20. There is most definitely no charge for an internal switch although they may occasionally suggest a change to your direct debit if there is a relatively bigger change in your cost.
  • I've had my first statement on this tarrif and it states end date 7th December 2026, that's 14 months right enough. Sorry to hear you are having problems, hope it gets resolved ok.
  • The Tariff section on the app shows my end date as 2nd Dec 2026 - so 14 months.
  • My application to switch to British Gas Collective Nov 26 was automatically blocked by their system but a BG agent promised the switch would be carried out within 14 days. It didn't happen and MSE gave me a different reason for the rejection but it was too late to make a fresh application.

Trying to sort it by phone etc. was very difficult, having to explain multiple times to different people most of whom didn't seem to understand about the Collective Switch. Eventually I was switched but they put me on their own November26 tariff which is signficantly more expensive. I wanted to revert to the v63 tariff I was on but they said it can't be done so all I can do is keep looking for a better tariff to be offered and switch to that. To be fair they did give me some compensation for the way I was treated.

I signed up for the BG Collective Nov26 Tariff which started on 01 October 2025 but then changed to the BG Collective Feb27 Tariff which started on 04 Feb 2026.

Did I do the right thing by switching to the BG Collective Feb27 Tariff or would I have been better to stay on the BG Collective Nov26 Tariff?

There was no word from MSE as to whether it was beneficial in switching between these two tariffs.

BG Collective Nov26 Tariff (end date 30 November 2026)
Elec 22.72p per kWh + 47.59p standing charge per day
Gas 5.31p per kWh + 26.44p standing charge per day

BG Collective Feb27 Tariff (end date 03 February 2027)
Elec 24.36p per kWh + 46.30p standing charge per day
Gas 5.05p per kWh + 29.20p standing charge per day
