Hi - I am thinking of doing this switch.  I am already with BG and want to switch to BG.  I am concerned that I will be charged the early exit fee though.  Has this gone smoothly with other people who have done the same?  Thanks

No early exit fee if internal switch.
  • Hi,

I'm already a customer of Britisg Gas and switched my tariff to MSE Collective Nov 26 on 30 Sept for my main residence, and it went through OK.

On 1 Oct I tried to switch for my second residence from OVO to British Gas MSE Collective Nov 26 and nothing happened. British Gas told me they had not been notified. I sent a query to the MSE help team but they have not replied yet.

With time running out I have tried the switch again yesterday and await what happens. I sent another email yesterday to the MSE help team reminding them of the problem I had, but as of this morning have still not had a reply.

I must have changed Tariff within British Gas at least 4 or 5 times this year. Every time I spot a new tariff which is slightly cheaper, or a longer period, I change even if I'm only saving £20. There is most definitely no charge for an internal switch although they may occasionally suggest a change to your direct debit if there is a relatively bigger change in your cost.

I did the switch and British Gas took over my account on 3rd October - very quick!  However, I've just noticed the end date is 29th October 2026. It's stated 14 months fixed but this is less than 13 months.  What are others seeing as their end date please?  I've already had £30 compensation as they messed up and claimed my direct debit payment before they should have done so don't want to go in all guns blazing!
  • I've had my first statement on this tarrif and it states end date 7th December 2026, that's 14 months right enough. Sorry to hear you are having problems, hope it gets resolved ok.

The Tariff section on the app shows my end date as 2nd Dec 2026 - so 14 months.
