Him claiming UC will have no affect on your UC or TP because for UC purposes you are 2 separate households.

Their appears to still be confusion between the council tax discount of 25% with your entitlement to council tax support. The discount is awarded based on you and your sons circumstances. Council tax support is means tested with your son being classed as a dependant whilst still in f t education. From the date his child benefit ends- end of august-first week in september- benefits treat him as a non dependant but for council tax discounts the one regard discount for him being classed as being in f t education isawarded until the last day in October. And from the description of the other benefits you receive he will qualify for the family carers disregard from the 1st November irrespective of what income he receives

also if he applies for UC in his own right does he have to use his own mobile number (just looking into contracts) or could he use mine?

He should use his own. Not only that if you’ve used your mobile number for your claim he won’t be able to use that.
