Is my smart meter tripping the electric

On Saturday we had a power cut. When the power cut website said our power was restored we still didn't have power. However I  noticed that there was a light on the meter and the main switch was tripped. We turned each sub trip switch off in turn but the main trip switch still tripped. I phoned powergrid and the call handler said to press buttons on the smart meter to reset it. Then I could reset the trip switch and we had power again. Then in the middle of the night there was no power. I don't know if there was a power cut or the switch just tripped. Once again pressing buttons on the smart meter allowed me to reset the trip switch.
Does anyone think this is possible

    It is possible, but unlikely.

Do you know your neighbours well enough to ask if they are having issues? A significant over-volt might trip the protection circuit on the meter and it is cutting power, hence you being unable to restore power until it is reset.

    Do you remember which buttons?
    What model of smart meter?

It is a liberty 100. I think we pressed all the buttons. It has only happened the twice yesterday. We get power cuts quite often and usually it just comes back on.
I haven't seen the neighbours today to ask them.

With most smart meters, there isn't anything that the user can do to influence them. There's no "user reset" option. But the Liberty 100 is a bit of an outlier, with some weird quirks.

This was the best list I found of user menu options - but other meters had "hidden" engineering menus as well - access protected on some.

I seem to remember even that varied from time to time.

The only thing it says about off supply is check meter hasn't fallen into prepay.
