Luton airport drop off fine - overstay

Hi all
I’ve looked at lots of other posts/forums and failed to find a similar situation.
I was kindly collected from Luton Airport. Our flight was delayed and the family member collecting me therefore went over the 30 minutes allowed in the ‘drop off / pick up’ zone by 2 minutes 20 seconds. They were stressed and quite elderly, and don’t really understand technology and the parking rules. I tried to go and pay online once we left, as you have to, and when I entered the reg number it showed me recorded entry and exit times, and that we had gone over the 30 minutes, and gave me no option to pay, simply saying that:

‘You have exceeded the maximum stay and therefore you may be subject to a Parking Charge in accordance with the Terms & Conditions displayed.’
We would pay the ridiculous amount for the drop off fee (£27!) but feel it’s extortionate to be fined for a 2 minute overstay. On their online faq it says the fine is £95 (!!!) or £55 if paid in the first 14 days.
Does anyone know if they give any grace period, or if we could try the usual appeal template for those who forget to pay at all?
I appreciate it was our mistake, and for any help you can give. My family member, who is quite elderly, is very distressed by this.

Have a look a the group airport thread; one basic rule - Don't tell'em Pike, i.e don't say who was driving!1

No grace periods under 30mins and at drop-offs. But 2min 30 is clearly de minimis.1

I thought it was £8 or £9 drop off or was your drop off a different class of drop off?
Just to edit this I checked LLA site and there's a £1 per minute charge over 10 mins.1 -
Just appeal using the Airport drop off group thread's version of appeal.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
