Dose alcohol limit count if bottle is open?

I was told that if you opened a bottle it didn't count towards the limit - i guess this is just a myth but can anyone confirm

    As you wont be allowed through into departures with an opened bottle (of any liquid) due to new restrictions , if you buy a bottle in duty-free when through you wont be allowed to drink any on plane. Same if you buy on plane so I would say its not even worth the hassle of trying to include it on your allowance. I think it would count anyway but hardly worth it really.

    It counts as part of your allowance.

    Customs will normally accept a 40oz bottle in lieu of the 1 litre (35oz) allowance. You don't have to open it and drink a bit!!
