Yahoo folders disappearing.

Genuinely asking for a friend.

All the content from his Yahoo email has disappeared 3 times now.  First time he thought he'd hit a key and deleted it all, but it's happened twice since.
Yahoo have been pretty unhelpful so I'm asking here whether anybody else has had the same experience, or any suggestions as to possible cause.

    Have you changed the filter?

If your filter is "unread" and you've read everything, it will show you nothing.
  • A number of years ago I lost a number of years worth of emails with yahoo. They couldn't get them back for me.

I'll get him to check.  It would be great if that is the cause but I doubt it.

That looks similar to what he has experienced.  The concern it that is has now happened multiple times in just a few months.

Of course it was all OK because they were backed up?  I suspect not, but your story reminded me that I hadn't done a back-up for a while.

I've had a message from him simply saying 'sorted', but no idea of how at this time.  If I get more info I'll post it here in case it helps others.

I finally caught up with my mate who had the problems with Yahoo and had simply sent the message 'Sorted'.

He spoke to one of these 'Computer Medic' type people who advised him to dump Yahoo and switch to Gmail, so the problem didn't actually get sorted.
The person he spoke to said there are known to be bugs in Yahoo which only appear after many years of use, and my mate had been using it for 20 years plus.
There have been a couple of positives from the problems he had.  1) He's realised that only keeping important documents in electronic form isn't a great idea 2) He's realised that he didn't really need the vast majority of the stuff he was keeping anyway.
He said it took him a good few days to make the move over the Gmail because of the number of companies/organisations he has email links to.  He got there though.
Maybe something to think about for long term Yahoo users?

Yes possibly but maybe use an alternative to gmail if you don't want to be the product.

What "bugs" would these be then?
I have had my Yahoo account since at least 2001 and I haven't seen anything of the sort.

Bear in mind this is 3rd hand information but, apparently, what my friend experienced i.e. all folders disappearing and not being recoverable even by Yahoo, is not uncommon.  He had also been using Yahoo for over 20 years.  All I have been told is the problems appear after many years use.  Sorry to be so vague, but that's all I've been told.
It genuinely isn't my problem - it is a friend's.
