    Thanks! Very thoughtful advices.

@matt_drummer I understand what you are getting at. But in the shop example, won't the shop be required put down or update the ad? My point was, I did not thought that brake fluid change was generally not considered as a service. I just felt the ad was a bit misleading. At any rate, as you pointed out service centre clarified what's considered as service in the promotion which seems to be engine oil change only. In which case, it would have been clear to just state engine oil service only in the ad.

Anyways, looks like its unanimous from just the posts here that service generally mean engine oil and filter change

They are just giving a free MOT if you spend a certain amount of money with them.

It's up to them to determine how much you need to spend and then for you to decide whether or not to accept their offer.

    It's as simple as that.

Their advert is not a contract, just a way of attracting interest

They're two different things though. One is asking what the minimum spend/amount of work/number and type of jobs is required to qualify for a "service" to get a free MoT; and the other is asking what is actually required for a (full) service.

There doesn’t seem to be a huge amount of consistency with BMW and brake fluid changes. When I bought mine, it came with a 5 year service package, during which time it would have required 2 brake fluid changes. The first one was covered but the second one wasn’t (which is exactly what the T&C’s said when I looked at them).

But I’d be tempted to agree that without looking at the offer terms here, I wouldn’t expect brake fluid to qualify (and I’d be surprised if the terms didn’t explicitly say that).

  • It can be a bit confusing because “service” can mean different things to different garages. Technically, changing brake fluid is a service item, but most promotions that advertise a “service and free MOT” usually mean a full service, which includes engine oil and filter changes.

Brake fluid doesn’t wear out like engine oil; it’s time-based and needs changing every couple of years because it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere. That’s why some garages won’t count it as a service on its own for a promotion, even though it’s listed in the manufacturer’s service menu.

In short, your BMW app is correct that brake fluid is a service item, but on its own it’s not considered enough for some service promotions.

Times have changed - the 2nd Brake-Fluid changes is now included, as part of the 5year package.

With Peugeot a  1-5 year service plan.
    Included everything.
Oil, Oil Filter, Pollen filters every 2 years , Air filter every 4 years + Fuel filter, Brake fluid every 2 years,
    Adblue top up every service.

Now a service is Oil + filter, either Air or pollen filter, I chose pollen as is a pain in the bum to change.
Brake fluid is £60- £80 ish extra.

If you read what is included, most of the time you should just get an oil + filter change for the stamp, then buy
Air and pollen filters and fit yourself.

I ordered Mann air filters for my car as they make them for Peugeot.
I will add a picture if I can find it.
